Aziza Mustafa - Zadeh. Schon der Name ist wie Musik. Und wie bei kaum einer anderen Künstlerin verspürt man bei ihr, dass sie Musikalität pur ist. Wenn Aziza Mustafa - Zadeh am Klavier sitzt, explodiert die aserbaidschanische Schönheit förmlich, wie man es der zarten Person niemals zutrauen würde. Sie liebt und lebt ihre Musik. Wie von einer höheren Macht geführt, fegen ihre Finger über die Tastatur. Das kräftige Timbre ihrer Stimme, der lupenreine Wechsel der Töne sind einfach grandios, ihre Koordination zwischen Gesang und Klavierspiel ist immer wieder faszinierend und einzigartig.

Aziza Mustafa -Zadeh spielt sich in einen regelrechten Rausch, sie erdenkt bombastische Dekors a´ la Prinzessin aus dem Morgenland, sie stampft mit den Füßen, singt Koloraturen, die für große Operbühnen geeignet wären. In dieser grenzenlosen Symbiose steht die Künstlerin konkurrenzlos da. Allem Ausdruck ist eines zu eigen: Ein urmusikantisches Fabulieren, ganz großer Gestus. Da purzeln zwar alle Kategorien, aber der Ausdruck bleibt immer stimmig. Aziza streckt die Arme gen Himmel, erhebt den Blick, und wir sind gefangen von dieser Bühnengewalt.

Ihre virtuose Technik am Klavier wie auch ihre perfekt ausgebildete Stimme setzen ihr keine Grenzen, sie erlauben dem fabelhaften Feenwesen eine musikalische Welt- und Zeitreise ohnegleichen. Kaum eine Gattung, die bei ihr nicht aufblitzt, der Zitatenschatz scheint unerschöpflich: Die Orientalik ihrer Heimat, der klassische Jazz, die große Literatur des Pianos und jetzt noch die Welt der italienischen Oper. Da widmet sie die „Pace, pace“ - Arie aus der „Macht des Schicksals“ Maria Callas, in Ravels „Bolero“ überhöht sie das lustvolle Geschehen bis zum finalen, erlösenden Koloraturabbruch – Standing Ovations! Ihre Stimme ist phänomenal wechselbar, weich, hart, melancholisch, schmeichlerisch, groß und von „instrumentaler“ Präzision. Wahnwitziger Scatgesang folgt sekundenschnell auf Opernarien oder traumhaft gehauchte Balladen. Spielerisch verbindet sie Jazz mit Klassik: Dave Brubeck steht neben Bach, Chopin und Verdi. Aziza Mustafa - Zadeh besitzt die Gabe, daraus einen dramaturgisch exzellent aufbereiteten Abend des Ungewöhnlichen zu gestalten, und sie selbst erscheint dabei so Ungewöhnlich und Unvergleichbar wie ihr Konzertprogramm.

She was born to a family of jazz musicians, her father Vagif Mustafa-Zadeh being the most renowned Jazzpianist and composer of the ex-Soviet Union. He was also the founder of Aseri-Jazz the style that incorporates „Mugam“ a traditional form of musical improvisation. Aziza´s mother Eliza, was educated in classical Bel Canto singing and later performed as a Jazzsinger together with her husband. By luck and grace Aziza has inherited talents from both sides, playing, singing, and composing some of the most extraordinary Jazz to be heard today. She first appeared in the U.S. at age 17 when she won the Thelonious Monk prize in Washington D.C. going on from there to win a collection of prizes all over Europe. Her piano technique is as astounding as is her performance. Since her arrival in the West and the release of her first CD on Sony Records, Jazz critics have compared her to such great musicians as Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, and Chick Corea.

Yet hers is a completely original mixture of Far-Eastern folklore played in the most high-class Classic European tradition by a beautiful and enchanting young girl who’s life is devoted to the Jazz heritage. Her feeling for rhythm is impressive. Her extremely dynamic composing will have quotes by Bach as well as the occasional romanticism strewn-in, but and above all the Folk Music of her country is featured played out to it’s heights in virtuous Jazz improvisations. Her piano playing alone would suffice to astound an audience, but total awe for this young phenomenal musician really sets in when she begins to sing: her crystal clear voice soars through oriental melodies of her Aserbaijani home, then scats in the staccato style of American Jazz. It is a breath-taking experience comparable only with highly trained acrobats, who’s mastery of the most difficult feats are performed by mear children. Aziza is completely at home in her music. Her verbal communication with the audience wins over any scepticism of her person with unassuming pure young and naive untouched beauty.

The new Program is a mixture of Aziza Mustafa Zadehs own Compositions in Mugam Jazz but also famous titles from Verdi -“ Pace,pace mio Dio” from La Forza de Destino / Ravel -“ Bolero”/ Puccini -“Un bel di vederemo”from Madame Butterfly or “ Questa Reggia” from Turandot / Gershwin “Summertime”./ Händel – “Ombra mai fu” and more.
